The container that was loaded in the UK on 25th October arrived in Banjul on 22nd November and arrived at Take Care Nursery School on Monday 24th November. There was a big celebration and news of the container was reported in Gambian newspapers and on Gambian Radio stations.

September 2008

Heavy winds on 30th September have caused serious damage to the original classroom block, the roof has blown off and part of the block has collapsed. Fortunately the winds occurred during the night and so there were no injuries at the school. We are waiting for an update as to how the village has been affected but we believe a number of houses have been badly affected. We will assess the damage and FTCNS will assist with the repair or rebuild of the original classroom block. In the meantime the children will continue to go to school and will use the Roundhill Hall for their lessons.

March 2008

Desks and chairs, funded by Longslade Community College, have now been built and installed in the nursery school. These robust units will last for many years.

The Orphean classroom is ready for use although the walls still need plastering and the floor needs tiles (which we are trying to source in the UK).

Work has commenced on the dining hall and hopefully this will soon be ready for use.

November 2007

The rainy season has now finished and work has started on the new Orphean Classroom. This is very needed as the school roll has now increased to 196. All credit to Bakary and his teachers who are making such a positive impact.

October 2007

Great news - Bakary Kujabi is relinquishing his post at Bintang Bolong Lower Basic School at the end of this year and from then onwards he will be working full time at Take Care Nursery School.

July 2007

The well is complete. It is 25 metres deep. Water was available at the nursery school for when the group from Longslade arrived. Play equipment has been constructed locally, a slide, 3 swings, 3 seesaws, a climbing frame and some other smaller pieces - have a look at the photographs!

June 2007

The kitchen is now complete. Photos now arrived - see
The well digging is progressing - it is deep but water has now been reached. Still more work required to complete but it's going well!

May 2007

Work on the kitchen is progressing well and it is hoped that this will be complete by the end of the month.

Work has begun on re-digging a well approximately 30 metres from the school building. The old well could not be redug as it was considered unsafe.

March 2007

The construction of the school kitchen has begun. The local women graced the start of the work by holding a ceremony of singing and dancing.

A new latrine has been built. The floor of one of the classrooms has been repaired. Water containers have been obtained for each classroom. The overgrown garden area has now been cleared to help eliminate any risk from snakes.
