Take Care Nursery School Teachers Undergo Training

On the 14th July 2008, three teachers from the Take Care Nursery School, namely: Momodou Lamin Cham, Hajie Leigh and Yusupha Baldeh started their training on the Early Childhood Development at Gambia College. The training, which is a three year programme, covers many areas like language, literacy, communication, mathematical numeracy development, creative development, knowledge development, nutrition and hygiene.

We came across so many hurdles in the teaching process because we were not trained. So we all felt a high need for us to undergo training to be able to overcome these hurdles. Due to financial constraints this was not possible for a long time. Therefore, when we received the good news from our headmaster that Friends of Take Care Nursery School had sent some funds for the training, we felt deeply glad.

The first day of the training was another happy moment. On this day we all felt proud because our dreams had become a reality. We felt very happy because the training would certainly upgrade our standards to become qualified teachers who would have the ability to give quality education to the pupils. On this day we saw many other students some of whom we knew.

After the registration all the new students were gathered in a big hall. Here we were given a piece of advice with regards to the rules and regulations of the training. Regularity and punctuality were highly emphasized. From here we were allocated to various classrooms. In our classrooms we were asked to sit in groups as our pupils would be expected to be seated in their classrooms. One by one we introduced ourselves to the class.

This is very important training. We learnt so many things we never knew before. Our knowledge on the teaching profession has definitely increased. By the end of the three year training we hope that a lot would be achieved and this would certainly have a positive impact in the children’s welfare.

We thank Ant& Karen Davis for their remarkable effort.
